It is said to be the first human settlement in the area of Hebron, established next to Ein Judeida spring in the Early Bronze age. In the Middle Bronze Age, the site was surrounded with a cyclopean wall and the archaeological findings prove that the place at that time functioned as an administrative center. The Tell was abandoned after the end of the 10th century BC. The place was revived in the Roman era and remains of a Byzantine church (Deir Arbain) were found on the hill.
